Day 1 – Morning
The Perfect and Imperfect Leaders
An interactive exercise where students start the process of self-assessment.
Transactional Vs. Transformational Leadership
Using contemporary examples, students explore the differences between the traditional carrot and stick style of leadership and the more modern and more effective transformational leadership.
Day 1 – Afternoon
Do you have trouble motivating others? In this class, students engage in an interactive game where they debate different ways to motivate people. Based on a number of scientific studies, students learn how old management methods actually diminished motivation and how they can apply new techniques to increase the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations of others.
Day 2 – Morning
Are you in a position where you need to influence others? In this class, participants will learn scientifically proven ways to get people to behave in certain ways. Whether you need to influence up or down a command chain, this interactive exercise will keep you thinking for a long time.
Leveraging the Power of the Group
In this exercise, participants see how quickly they fall into group behavior without even understanding why they are doing it. Participants will learn how to leverage group dynamics in their leadership style in order to enhance team building identities and efforts.
Day 2 – Afternoon
How Group Mentalities Sub-Consciously Affect You as the Leader
One of the best ways to learn is to find yourself behaving in a certain way and in this exercise, participants are surprised by the way they act. Falling into traps within the first couple of minutes, participants will discover their own implicit biases, flawed decision-making processes and most importantly, find that they can also become the victim of the groupthink phenomenon where people become blinded due to the cohesion of the team.
Are You A Great Communicator?
While most of us may think we are good communicators, this exercise will show that you are not nearly as good a communicator as you think you are. Using principles from a book called Made To Stick by Chip and Dan Heath, participants learn how to create more memorable messages while also avoiding the curse of knowledge.
